Yue Yu was born in Shenzhen, China, in 1997. She studied with Louise Lansdown for her bachelor’s degree in England at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and graduated with first class in 2019. She moved to Austria in the same year and is currently studying her master’s degree at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg with Professor Thomas Riebl.

Since 2017, Yue began to apper at international competitions stages. She is winner of 2019 Stockport International Young Musician Competition, Sonata Prize at 2017 Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition, and live rounds competitor at 2019 Lionel Tertir Viola Competition. She is currently a Yeoman at the Worshipful Company of Musicians, London, and a scholar at the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein.

Most recently, Yue recorded her debut solo album with Naxos Label, in collaboration with pianist Anthony Hewitt and violinist Jeffrey Armstrong, and it is aiming to release in 2020. This CD includes many short pieces for viola and piano by York Bowen, like Melodies and Romances, Allegro de Concert, three unpublished duos for violin and viola, and one not very often-heard big late work: Rhapsody for viola and piano. Alongside, there is the Britten’s Waltz from the violin suite op. 6 (arranged by Britten himself) and Imogen Holst’s duo and easy pieces.

She currently plays an instrument by French viola maker Antoine Gourdon, 2015, with a golden mounted bow by P. Guillaume.
